AI token cost formula
Input cost = input tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × input rate.
Output cost = output tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × output rate.
Monthly cost = (input cost + output cost) × monthly requests.
How many tokens are in a prompt?
There is no universal words-to-tokens conversion. Tokenization changes with the model, language, punctuation, code and formatting.
The optional word converter uses approximately 1.33 tokens per English word only as a planning shortcut. For billing-sensitive work, use the provider’s tokenizer or actual API usage records.

What is an AI token cost calculator?
It converts input-token and output-token prices into an estimated cost per API request, per 1,000 requests, per month and per year.
Why are input and output tokens priced separately?
Most major AI providers charge different rates for tokens sent to the model and tokens generated by the model, so calculating them separately gives a more realistic estimate.
Does this include cached-token discounts?
No. The default result uses standard uncached pricing. Cached input, batch processing, search tools, grounding, storage and other provider-specific charges can change the final bill.
Can I calculate a model that is not listed?
Yes. Select Custom model pricing and enter the provider’s input and output price per one million tokens.
Are the prices always current?
No pricing table can stay current permanently. The presets are dated September 2026, and users should confirm current rates with the provider before purchasing or quoting a client.
