What Is Runway Solaris?

Runway Solaris is the first model in what Runway calls a new family of Interface World Models. The idea is simple to describe but unusual in practice: instead of a website or app being built from a fixed collection of coded screens and interactions, the interface can be generated dynamically as the user interacts with it.

Runway introduced Solaris on August 31, 2026. The company says every frame is synthesized as you interact, allowing the interface to continuously respond to clicks, drags, typing and other actions.

Runway gives an example where clicking a cat can make its fur color and texture act like a tool, allowing subsequent clicks to apply that visual property to other objects. A painting could similarly become a style source for drawing.

That is a very different design philosophy from traditional apps, where every element has a behavior that developers must explicitly define ahead of time.

Runway says Solaris is not only about human-facing interfaces. The company also sees Interface World Models as a way to train AI agents in more dynamic environments.

Solaris can generate interfaces that continuously change, creating a potentially richer training environment. An agent would need to understand the task and adapt instead of memorizing where a particular button normally appears.

Could Runway Solaris Replace No-Code Builders?

Not today. No-code tools such as website builders and app builders still produce conventional software with predictable structure, accessibility, integrations and deployment options.

Solaris is exploring a more radical idea: the interface itself can remain generative while the user interacts with it. That opens new possibilities, but it also creates new problems around reliability, consistency and usability.

For now, the best way to think about Solaris is as a research direction rather than a direct replacement for existing website builders, design tools or development frameworks.

What Runway Solaris Still Needs to Solve

Runway openly lists several challenges that must improve before generated interfaces can become mainstream.

• Text rendering: generated text must remain legible and stable across interactions.
• Grounding: the interface needs to understand and preserve important information correctly.
• Predictability: software must behave reliably instead of producing unexpected changes.
• Long interactions: visual and semantic consistency must hold over extended sessions.
• Accessibility: generated interfaces must work with screen readers and accessibility APIs.
• Software integration: generated experiences still need to connect with the wider software stack.

Can You Use Runway Solaris Right Now?

Solaris is not yet a normal public Runway product. Runway says it is working with key partners to launch Solaris publicly and currently provides an early-access request form on the official research page.

That means creators should not expect to open the standard Runway dashboard and immediately start building Solaris-powered apps today.

Because Solaris is still in early access, availability, capabilities and product details may change as Runway moves closer to a public launch.

Runway Solaris is interesting because it is not simply another AI website generator. It questions a basic assumption of software design: that interfaces must be built first and then shown to users.
