Understand what drives YouTube earnings

Your views matter, but they are only part of the story. The calculator helps you test different revenue assumptions without presenting a single fixed RPM as universal.

The creator earnings guide

How to calculate YouTube earnings

For a simple planning estimate, multiply your total views by your assumed revenue per 1,000 views. The calculation is (views ÷ 1,000) × RPM. If you receive 1,000,000 views in a month and your RPM is $2.50, the resulting estimate is $2,500 for that month. This is a mathematical example, not a typical or promised result.

What is YouTube RPM?

RPM means revenue per mille, or revenue per 1,000 views. In YouTube Analytics, it is a creator-focused revenue metric that can include different revenue sources. CPM is an advertiser-facing metric and is not interchangeable with RPM. For the most relevant calculation, enter your own historical RPM from YouTube Analytics and match the format of the content you are forecasting.

Why Shorts and long-form videos need separate assumptions

Shorts and long-form content use different monetization mechanics, so an RPM observed for one should not automatically be applied to the other. Use the tabs above to maintain distinct assumptions. The tool does not retrieve your actual channel analytics or independently verify an RPM.

Factors that influence real earnings

  • Audience geography, advertiser demand and content niche.
  • Monetization eligibility and the share of views that generate revenue.
  • Video format, seasonality, viewer behavior and content suitability for ads.
  • Other revenue sources reflected in the RPM metric you choose.
  • Changes in YouTube policies, revenue-sharing systems and reporting.

What this calculator does not include

It does not independently calculate sponsorship payments, brand deals, affiliate commissions, product sales or production costs. It also cannot tell whether a channel is approved for monetization. Treat the output as a scenario-planning tool, not a financial statement.

Quick reference

Illustrative RPM comparison

The table below demonstrates how different assumed RPMs affect earnings at the same number of views. These figures are examples, not market averages.

Monthly viewsAt $0.05 RPMAt $1 RPMAt $3 RPMAt $5 RPM
10,000$0.50$10$30$50
100,000$5$100$300$500
500,000$25$500$1,500$2,500

5,000,000$250$5,000$15,000$25,000

All amounts in USD, before any additional personal taxes or costs. The RPM columns are deliberately chosen calculation examples.

Practical workflow

How to use this YouTube Money Calculator

Choose whether you want to estimate long-form video or Shorts revenue. Enter your expected daily views and the number of days in your calculation month. Next, use your actual RPM from YouTube Analytics if available, or enter an assumption you want to test. The monthly, daily and annual results will update immediately.

Use the uncertainty selector to create a wider or narrower scenario range. The annual figure assumes 12 months with the same estimated monthly performance; it does not predict audience growth. If your content mix changes substantially, calculate the formats separately and add the resulting estimates yourself.

For a better business plan, compare multiple view and RPM assumptions, then account separately for operating costs, taxes and revenue sources not represented by your selected RPM.

Common questions

YouTube Money Calculator FAQs

How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views?

There is no universal amount. Actual creator revenue depends on the channel, content format, audience and monetization. Enter an RPM assumption to calculate a scenario rather than relying on a fixed payout figure.

How much money is 1 million YouTube views?

At an assumed $1 RPM, one million views would produce a $1,000 estimate. At $3 RPM, the estimate would be $3,000. These are mathematical examples, not typical earnings.

Are YouTube Shorts earnings the same as long-form video earnings?

No. Their monetization systems differ. Use a separate Shorts RPM assumption rather than copying the value from your long-form videos.

What is the difference between RPM and CPM?

RPM is a creator-oriented revenue measure per 1,000 views, while CPM describes advertiser spending per 1,000 ad impressions. They should not be treated as interchangeable.

Can I calculate earnings before joining the YouTube Partner Program?

You can explore hypothetical scenarios, but this does not mean your channel is eligible to earn that revenue. A channel without applicable monetization may earn no advertising revenue from its views.

Does this calculator connect to my YouTube account?

No. It uses only the values you enter in your browser. It does not access YouTube Analytics or request your account credentials.

Are the currency conversion rates live?

No. They are editable illustrative reference rates. Check a current exchange-rate provider for financial decisions.

Does the yearly estimate include growth?

No. It multiplies the estimated monthly revenue by 12. Actual views and revenue can change significantly month to month.

Does the estimate include sponsorships and affiliate income?

Not separately. It calculates views multiplied by the RPM you enter. Additional business income must be considered separately unless already incorporated in that RPM.

Is this YouTube earnings calculator free?

Yes. It works in your browser without registration or an API key.
